TALES FROM OUR WEEKLY FRIDAY PROGRAMME (#EndSARS)
Chukwuemerie Udekwe.
Past a week now, the country has been bubbling in the #EndSARS protest, which began first, from youths protesting for the ban of a particular unit of police, the Special Anti Robbery Squad, then moving to the general demand for Police reform and now, a lot more.
And the kings of Bubendorff have not been left out. Being the leaders of tomorrow, and specially trained to go into the world, face it, overcome and conquer, they found it pertinent to lend their voices in the quest to gain control over their country and salvage it from the already dilapidating state.
Hence, on Friday, 16th October, 2020, the students of Bubendorff thought it germane to capture the very causes, essence and prospects revolving around the #EndSars saga.
Following a parliamentary style of discussion, the question of the causes was first of all addressed, drawing facts from the view that youths at this time were tired of police brutality, oppression, extra-judicial killings, undue and irrational suspicion to crimes and the scandalous abuses of human rights by this particular unit of the police, nay the police in general. Tired of these and many more, with the direct causes being the Ughelli incident, the youths began the protest, which has however, become so global and viral than anyone would have thought.
Having x-rayed the causes of the protest, the students stepped further to outline and elucidate the very essence of it. Of course, and as previously implied, the students made it clear and apparent that it was geared towards the ban of SARS, an end to police brutality and the general reformation of Nigerian police. Thus, protesters, especially comprising youths, have found their way to the streets, major roads and media, more squarely, Twitter to proffer their distaste, grievances and reservations.
In a word, "they are tired," as one of the speakers clearly put it, succinctly and explicitly.
The prospects were not left out, particularly since the protest, which began as a reaction to particular demands has however, escalated to become a march, expressing the general rejection of BAD GOVERNANCE and the call for A NEW NIGERIA.
"It has indeed, transformed from a destination into a journey," borrowing a ride in one of the speakers' train of thoughts.
In recapitulation, the kings of Bubendorff tactically, critically and extensively discussed the ongoing #EndSARS protest. Hoping for a BETTER NIGERIA, the students left the programme with added vigor and enthusiasm to be responsible, more dedicated and properly suited to take charge and conquer the world.
